CV NEWS FEED // Pope Francis is expected to share another Angelus message on Sunday, March 23, continuing his practice of offering written or recorded reflections while hospitalized.
“For the moment, the Sunday Angelus will take place as in previous Sundays,” the Holy See Press Office confirmed in a Friday evening update published by Vatican News. Any changes to that plan will be communicated by the Vatican on Saturday.
Though the Pope’s condition remains stable and continues to improve, the Vatican’s statement made clear that “the doctors have not yet given any indication regarding his discharge from the hospital.”
Pope Francis has been receiving treatment at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital since Feb. 14, following a diagnosis of bilateral pneumonia. The Vatican reported that he no longer requires mechanical ventilation at night, instead using high-flow oxygen through nasal cannulas — and even that support is being reduced during the day.
The Holy Father received no visitors on Friday, instead spending his time in prayer, therapy, and work, the Vatican reported. The next medical bulletin is expected “no earlier than Monday” local time, according to Vatican News.
Last Sunday, March 16, Pope Francis delivered a written Angelus reflection from the hospital, CatholicVote reported, which focused on the Gospel reading of the Transfiguration and offered words of hope for the sick.
