Investigation concludes there was no abuse committed by Cardinal Lacroix of Québec

CV NEWS FEED // A preliminary canonical investigation has concluded that there was no abuse or misconduct committed by Cardinal Gérald Lacroix, Archbishop of Québec, the Holy See Press Office announced on May 21.

The Holy See Press Office published a statement stating that an anonymous accusation had been made against Cardinal Lacroix in a class action lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Québec.

Retired Judge of the Superior Court of Québec André Denis conducted the investigation after the Vatican commissioned him in February. The investigation concluded on May 6.

“In the light of the facts examined by the judge, the report does not permit to identify any actions that amount to misconduct or abuse on the part of Cardinal Gérald C. Lacroix. Consequently, no further canonical procedure is foreseen,” the Vatican statement reads.

The statement noted that Pope Francis authorized Denis to issue a statement on the investigation and to answer any questions on the investigation.

The Archdiocese announced on its Facebook page that “the diocesan team and Cardinal Lacroix will react later” to the conclusion of the investigation.
