CV NEWS FEED // In preparation for the Napa Institute’s 2024 Summer Conference, the organization’s president, Tim Busch, recently explained why event organizers selected the theme “What It Means to be Human.”
Busch co-founded the California-based Napa Institute, which aims at bringing Catholic leaders together to “[empower them] to renew the Church and transform the culture.”
The 14th annual Summer Conference will take place July 24-28 in Napa, California, and will focus on foundational truths about human life and dignity, Busch said in an email CatholicVote received.
Busch wrote that several prominent lies have harmed the United States, and the country needs the Holy Spirit in order to have clarity and truth. The lies include the notion that “men can be women” and that “[u]nborn babies can be killed–because they’re not really people.” Similarly, physician-assisted suicide claims that it is “humane” for sick or elderly persons to take their own lives.
“Everywhere you look, you see the denial of human dignity. Our culture has lost its understanding of what we are, why we exist, and most importantly, who created us,” Busch continued:
And so we need Pentecost. We need the Holy Spirit to fill us and help us rebuild a society on a foundation of truth. Especially about the human person.
This year’s Summer Conference will focus on that exact theme—what it means to be human.
He also cited John 16:13, where Jesus tells his disciples that the Holy Spirit “will guide you to the truth.”
“That’s God’s promise to us in the Gospel of John—that the Holy Spirit will bring us to a new birth of truth,” Busch wrote. “We remember this promise today, as we celebrate Pentecost. It’s a timeless celebration, yet it also seems to me to be uniquely timely. We need the Holy Spirit to descend upon our increasingly secular and inhuman society.”
